Barn Renovators Win Green Honor

The team behind the Bolger Community Center has earned the 2013 Green Project award in the not-for-profit category from the New Jersey Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council for its sustainable construction.

The honor will be shared by The Bolger Foundation, architects with the Peter Raymond Wells firm in Park Ridge, Consulting engineers and the contractors, architect Peter Raymond Wells said.

The historic Pease Building has a rich history. In 1917, Ridgewood resident Gertrude Pease Anderson saw a community need for a public library and by her last will and testament established a fund to purchase a site and build a library which was to be named George L. Pease Memorial Library as a tribute to her late father, George L. Pease. The building served as Ridgewood’s only public library from 1923 through 1963 until finally the building could not accommodate Ridgewood’s growing need for a library with more services. In 1963 a much larger “main Library,” known today as the Ridgewood Public Library was constructed on North maple Avenue.

History of Wells Associates

Wells Associates was established in 1957 by the Senior member of the firm, Raymond Wells. In recent years Peter and Jeffrey Wells have joined the firm as principals after graduation from the Rhode Island School of Design. Combined with the three principals, the firm employs six additional graduate Architects and is one of the larger more diversified offices in Northern New Jersey.
